Victor had been longing for the sound of her voice from the second she ran away. Truth be told, he was left craving more than that. Nina in the flesh far surpassed the fantasies that turned through his mind when he first saw her painted form. She was soft and graceful in her every move. Her hair smelled of orange blossoms, and she tasted like the finest wine. But her eyes were the real deal. On first glance, they were as expected, shy and a little bit sad. When he looked closer, he could see the fire bubbling below the surface. Victor had felt the cauldron reach the point of overflowing when they came together, but everything still started and ended with her eyes, darker than brown and almost black. He remembered filling the champagne flutes to the rim and even thought of proposing a toast to her beauty when he returned to the bedroom. That she was already prepped to take her leave was nearly devastating, but he could sense her reluctance as he played the trump card that was giving her his number. Soon enough she would use it to make contact. She had to.

“Victor? Did you hear me?”

How about right now?

At the sound of her invitation, Victor forgot the spreadsheets and the afternoon meetings that were supposed to command all of his attention. They counted for nothing. He couldn’t focus on anything but Nina.

“I did. What’d you have in mind?”

This wasn’t like him, letting the girl take charge. Victor was far more accustomed to calling the shots and setting the scene for his pleasure. That had been his intention when he saw her painting, but she had changed everything up when she let her hair fall and pierced him with her stare. He still took charge out of habit, but Nina was the one driving him to ultimate heights on account of a desire to show her how good he felt with her inside and outside and simply near him. Nina was shrewd. She had to know that she was driving him crazy, but he did his best to play it cool as she disappeared into the night. Not knowing what else to do, only wanting her free of any chance of harm, he had called down to his chauffeur, Brett. Brett was instructed to see that Nina arrived at her intended destination so that she could conclude whatever distracted her so from their rendezvous until her mind and her body were free to return.

Nina laughed.

“Is it really up to me?”

Everything was up to her. He would come to wherever she was or meet her somewhere secret or just keep talking to her for eternity.

He needed any part of her that she was willing to offer.

“You’re in charge. Right now? I’m up for it. Where?”

Victor could hear Nina considering his proposal, and his hand formed a fist as he tapped his desk, desperately waiting for her answer.

“Do you know Joseph’s?”

Victor knew everywhere.

“The bistro on Hanover Square?”

And he could show her as much.
